The Luscher Colours Test was invented by Dr. Max Luscher, who first presented it in the 1947 at the International Congress of Psychology in Basel, Switzerland, this test is a tool for measuring a person’s psychophysical state based on their colour preferences and it is widely accepted by clinicians and physicians in Europe as a diagnostic aid.

1. THE METHOD OF LUSCHER COLOURS TEST
1.1. Eight different coloured cards are placed in front of you side by side and presented in random order. You have to choose which of the cards you like the best from the remaining seven, and placed down next to the most preferred.
1.2. At the same time be guided by the colour itself, try not to associate with any of the things (for example the colour of the cars, clothes that suit you, etc.). This process continues until you established your order of preference for the eight colours.
1.3. After that, the cards are shuffled and presented for you to choose again, but you are instructed try not to “remember what you have chosen the last time”. The results of your personalities followed the descriptive statements formed by Luscher of each colour.
Colours are divided between “basic” (blue, yelow, red, and green) and “auxiliary” (violet, brown, grey, and black).
2. THE POSITION OF THE COLOURED CARDS
- 1st Position:
This is the most-liked colour; it is your personal brand. It shows the essential method of the person choosing it, the means which he adopts to achieve his objective.
- 2nd Position:
This also shows an important subject, commonly representing what the person really is, even when he/she are not aware of it.
- 3rd and 4th Position:
These two show the “actual state of affairs”, the situation in which he actually feels himself to be, or the manner in which his existing circumstances require him to act.
- 5th and 6th Position:
Being the 'indifference' color choices, these show that their characteristics are not being rejected, but simply set aside and not currently in use; they could be brought into use at any time if need to be.
- 7th and 8th Position:
These colors represent a “turning away from”. These are the colors that are most disliked and "represent a need which is suppressed out of necessity“.
3. THE MEANING OF EACH COLOURS
Blue :“Depth of Feeling” passive, concentric, tranquillity, calm, tenderness
Green: “Elasticity of Will” passive, concentric, defensive, persistence, self-esteem/assertion, pride, control
Red: “Force of Will” ex-centric, active aggressive, competitive, action, desire, excitement, sexuality
Yellow: “Spontaneity” ex-centric, active, projective, aspiring, expectancy, exhilaration
Violet: “Identification” unrealistic/ wishful fulfilment, charm, enchantment
Brown: Bodily senses, indicates the body’s condition
Black: Nothingness, renunciation, surrender or relinquishment
Grey: Non-involvement and concealment
